Internship

The 2021 examination regulations require a 10-week work placement(390 hours). You can complete the internship either in one go or in two parts of at least 150 hours each. Longer internships can of course be credited without any problems. You can complete the internship either full-time or part-time.
You cannot complete a compulsory internship during a semester of leave. You can also find a detailed overview of important information here.

Internship questionnaire

In order to meet the requirements of the licensing regulations or if you are aiming for a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy with a license to practice, the internship must be divided into an orientation internship of at least 150 hours (first part of the internship) and a professionally qualifying activity of at least 240 hours (BQT I, second part of the internship). The orientation internship can be completed from the first semester (or before the start of studies, with a completed internship certificate), the professional qualification activity I only from at least 60 credits. Both can also be completed together in a 390-hour block after completing at least 60 credits. If the internships are completed individually, the orientation internship must be completed first. Certain requirements apply to the institutions and internships, which can be found most easily on the internship certificate. Further information specific to BQT I:

In particular, BQT I must be carried out in a healthcare facility in which full-time psychotherapists, psychological psychotherapists or child and adolescent psychotherapists are employed . They do not have to be directly supervised by a licensed psychologist; it is sufficient if the person has a degree in psychology and is responsible for the internship in terms of quality assurance.

For the BQT I, we have a number of cooperating institutions in the region where you can request a BQT I internship. You can find them here (the list is constantly being expanded). It is guaranteed that the above-mentioned framework conditions are met there.

If you would like to complete BQT I outside of our cooperation institutions, an individual internship contract must be concluded in advance between the institution and the university. This requires lead time, so please contact the internship coordinator at least two months before the planned start of your internship if you are not planning to complete your BQT I at a cooperating institution. If you are completing the BQT I at one of our cooperation partners, you can also register this shortly before the start so that the 60 ECTS are available at the time of registration in any case.

If you are not seeking a license to practice, you can complete the internship in any psychological field under the supervision of a person with a degree in psychology (Diplom or M.Sc. in Psychology) after you have earned at least 60 ECTS. Scope. 390 hours, divisible into partial internships of at least 150 hours each. Please send a current transcript of records with your application.

For the non-clinical internship, please find your own internship that meets the requirements of the examination regulations. The internship should be completed at an institution that employs a full-time person with a degree in psychology (Diplom, B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Psychology) or a person with a comparable degree who is responsible for supervision and internship support. Students generally look for suitable internships themselves. You can find a list of non-clinical internships here. However, you can also look for your own internships in Germany and abroad. The independent search for your internship enables you to carry out the internship according to your interests and should prepare you for your later job search.

For the orientation internship, please also look for an internship on your own that meets the requirements for OrPra (possibly also abroad). Please clarify this in advance with the institution and the person responsible for the internship module (requirements can be found on the internship certificate).

For BQT I , we have several cooperation institutions in the region where you can request a BQT I internship. You can find them here (the list is constantly being expanded). It is guaranteed that the above-mentioned general conditions are met. Completing the internship at one of these institutions is the preferred option!

Alternatively, you can also independently look for an internship for BQT I that fulfills the points for BQT I (requirements can be found on the internship certificate). In this case, we must conclude an individual contract for the duration of the internship, which states that the requirements of the licensing regulations are met. You should therefore inform the institution of this fact in advance and contact the internship office(praktikum.psychologie[at]uni-kassel[dot]de) in good time so that the individual contract can be initiated. If you are unsure whether the requirements are met, send the BQT-I internship certificate to the institution, where the relevant points are listed and the institution can confirm whether the points are met. The conclusion of the contract requires sufficient lead time, so please contact the internship coordinator at least two months before the planned start of the internship to arrange this.

Before starting the internship, the position must be approved by the person responsible for the module. Send the completed application form and, if necessary, further evidence (overview of achievements for BQT I) to praktikum.psychologie[at]uni-kassel[dot]de. You will receive confirmation of successful registration. Be sure to register the internships in advance. Otherwise it cannot be guaranteed that your internship will be recognized. Retroactive recognition is only possible for orientation internships completed prior to your studies. Please register your internship well in advance so that there is still time for any queries.

Your e-mail must contain:

• Name, matriculation number, semester, degree program
• OrPra or BQT I or non-approbation-compliant internship?
• Application form (both pages!)
• Current performance overview for BQT I/non-approbation-compliant internship

After completing the internship, please submit the following documents electronically as a pdf to the module supervisor of the internship(praktikum.psychologie[at]uni-kassel[dot]de):

• a certificate of internship completed and signed by the institution

and

• the completed internship questionnaire and an internship report based on the open questions in the document"Internship questionnaire" (length: 6 - 8 pages for the entire internship in continuous text, i.e. if you have divided the internship into two sub-internships 3 pages OrPra and 3 pages BQT I). Please make sure that the questionnaire and the certificate are filled out correctly.
• Please also include your name, matriculation number, semester and degree program in the email.

The documents will then normally be processed within 2-3 weeks and entered in your transcript of records.

Please note: Research internships are generally not suitable for the orientation internship and the BQT-I (i.e. a degree that conforms to licensing requirements).

You can also complete an internship in an academic context. In this case, it is best to contact the relevant member of staff.
The research internship can be completed during the lecture-free period as well as during the lecture period, as a full-time or part-time internship.
You make all these arrangements directly with the supervisor.
Once you have both come to an agreement, the supervisor must submit an informal application to the examination board in which your tasks are clearly noted. This should give you as comprehensive an insight as possible into the field of research.
It is your responsibility to register with the module supervisor of the internship(praktikum.psychologie[at]uni-kassel[dot]de).

An internship abroad is possible if you are studying in the non-clinical branch (non-approbation-compliant) and, if all requirements are met, for the OrPra.
