Master Thesis
The Master's thesis enables students to independently generate and publish scientific data. They work on problems related to the international food industry and consumer science, often in co-operation with external partners.
The master's thesis has a time period of 22 weeks and the period begins on the day the topic is announced by the Examination Board. The master's thesis including the colloquium comprises 30 credits.
Registration date: Monthly, every second Monday of the month at the examination office in Witzenhausen, Steinstr. 19. Link registration form
Admission: Admission will be announced one week after your documents have been assessed.
Supervision: two supervisors
First supervisor: a professor or a lecturer in Witzenhausen or Fulda, teaching in the IFBC
Second supervisor:
a) A professor or a lecturer in Witzenhausen or Fulda, teaching in the IFBC, or
b) A person from an external organization or company. Requirements: The person must hold an academic degree equivalent to a Master degree. To get an acknowledgment for the external person as second supervisor the student hands to the examination board
- a CV of the proposed supervisor
a copy of the final certificate of him/her.
Together with the Master registration form these documents should be handed in to examination office in Steinstraße 19, Witzenhausen.
The nomination of the external person as a second supervisor needs approval from the Examination Board (the letter will be send from the examination office).
At least one of the supervisors/examiners of the Master thesis must be a professor or a scientist qualified as a professor.
Submission:
Latest date for submission of the Master thesis should be 22 weeks, after the day of announcement by the examination office, Witzenhausen.
Earliest date for submission of the Master thesis possible after 18 weeks, after the day of announcement by the examination office, Witzenhausen.
Sumission via the Examination office in Witzenhausen
As a rule, three bound copies (no ring binding) as well as a USB stick with a complete version and an anonymized version (without title page and declaration of independence) as pdf files at the Examination Office (if the examiners agree to their own digital copy, several USB sticks can also be handed in accordingly.
Application for extension:
Requires written form, signed by applicant and first supervisor
- To be handed in at examination office in Steinstraße 19, Witzenhausen, room 1102
- Decision about the extension will be made by IFBC Examination Board
- Medical certificates need to be handed in within three days at the examination office Steinstraße 19, Witzenhausen, (room 1102)
Applications for extension due to organizational problems or content related difficulties must be received at the examination office two weeks before the deadline to the Examination Board (letterbox Studiensekretariat), stating the reasons and with the approval of the first supervisor.
Deadlines
The student and the first supervisor are both responsible meeting the deadlines.
- The oral examination (colloquium) should take place 2 – 6 weeks after thesis submission.
- Student and supervisors arrange the dates among them and inform the examination office at the day of thesis submission.
- student books a room in Witzenhausen with Ms Resmitha Schäfer (r.schaefer@uni-kassel.de) or in Fulda with Ms Daniela Hose (daniela.hose@oe.hs-fulda.de).
- Participation in the colloquium requires at least the grade „sufficient” in the master thesis. A colloquium which is not assessed as “sufficient” or better can be repeated once.
- The colloquium lasts 60 minutes.

Please note:
If you do not wish to re-register for the following semester, you must manage your timeframe so that the oral colloquium is taken by the end of March or the end of September at the latest. Alternatively, you must re-register for the following semester. If the oral colloquium is taken by the end of April or the end of October at the latest, the semester fee can be fully refunded retrospectively via the ASTA.
