Selection procedure (Bachelor and teaching degree)
Who gets a study place?
The selection takes place according to a defined procedure and is carried out in this way by all universities:
After the application deadline , in a first step - the so-called main procedure - all applicants are grouped according to certain characteristics and assigned to one or more lists - hereinafter referred to only as quotas .
The sorting (the ranking) of the applicants on these quotas is carried out according to specific criteria (see below), which vary depending on the quota. Only the best applicants of the respective quota will be granted a study place. The applicant who is the last to receive a study place in the respective quota forms the so-called admission limit. The rank number on which this applicant is placed is the so-called cut-off rank. The value of the relevant selection criterion of the last applicant admitted forms the so-called cut-off value, colloquially also known as the "numerus clausus"(NC).
Selection quotas
Most study places are awarded through the university's selection process. However, some study places are reserved for special groups of applicants.
The overall distribution at a glance (Bachelor)
Applicants with an average grade of at least 2.0 and a waiting period of at least 1 semester were admitted to the industrial engineering program in the main procedure. Among the applicants with an average grade of 2.0 - without waiting period - the decision had to be made by lot.
This means that
- all applicants with an average grade of 1.9 were admitted.
- Of the applicants with an average grade of 2.0, only those who demonstrated at least 1 semester of waiting time were admitted.
- Of the applicants with an average grade of 2.0 and no waiting period (waiting period = 0), only those who were lucky enough to draw lots were admitted.
For the degree program in Industrial Engineering and Management, admission was granted in the main procedure to those who have at least 6 half-years of waiting time and also at least an average grade of 2.7.
This means that
- all applicants were admitted who had 7 half-years of waiting time*.
- Of the applicants with 6 half-years of waiting time, only those who also have at least a 2.7 average grade were admitted.
<hr>*Due tochanged legal regulations, from now on no more than seven semesters of waiting time will be included in the calculation of the waiting time (see §5 HSchulZulG HE). Therefore, waiting periods beyond seven semesters no longer improve the chances of obtaining a place at university.

Move-up and lottery procedure
Often, after the main procedure has been completed, some study places remain unfilled and a Nachrückverfahren is carried out. The rejection notices are therefore only sent out after the move-up procedure.
In some study places there are also still a few study places unoccupied after the completion of the Nachrückverfahren. These are then drawn by lot. In most cases, these are study places for which the commitment on the part of the applicants was subsequently withdrawn. Those who have not previously applied for this study course can also take part in the lottery procedure . However, the chances of obtaining a study place are often very low.
