The Bachelor's degree program in Social Work is professionally oriented and teaches skills that enable students to enter the profession and take up a social work or social education career. The course is interdisciplinary. In addition to an introduction to the history, theories, concepts, methods and ethical foundations of social work, students learn the basics of educational science, sociology, psychology, political science and law. This enables students to establish the connection between scientific knowledge and professional practice and to develop reflexive and socially critical solutions to problems in the fields of social work. Depending on their interests, students can specialize in the fields of education, upbringing, therapy, rehabilitation and social assistance. An important career orientation is provided by a reflective practical phase linked to the courses offered (practical professional studies). Half of the internship period can be designed as teaching research. Further practical periods required for state recognition as a social worker in Hesse are completed postgraduately, i.e. after the Bachelor's degree.
