How is the study program structured?

The model study program consists of a one-year orientation phase and a subsequent major in the fields of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology . The orientation phase forms the basis for the subsequent major. Completed examinations and academic achievements are recognized in the major field of study.

Participation in the preliminary course in mathematics and, if applicable, in the preliminary course in chemistry is recommended for this degree program. The preliminary courses take place in September/October before the start of the lecture period and can be attended in parallel. Credit for the orientation year is possible.

If you already want to take mathematics modules from the majors during the orientation year, you must take and pass a mathematics entrance test in October. If you do not pass the entrance test, you will have to take the module "Advanced course in mathematics" in the orientation year.

During the orientation phase, offers you a wide range of bridge courses, STEM projects, specialized courses in the core study programs including examinations and course work, an interdisciplinary lecture series, events on the acquisition of key competencies, and a mentoring program .

The major is integrated into the plusMINT program and includes the complete study program of one of the analogous STEM programs of the University of Kassel (i.e. one of the STEM bachelor programs without orientation phase). You will go through your chosen major * and additionally receive the interdisciplinary competencies from the orientation phase. Accordingly, with a Bachlor of Science plusMINT degree, you have the same opportunities to apply for fields of work and master's degree programs as graduates* of the analogous STEM degree programs.

Please note that the Bachelor plusMINT is a complete bachelor's degree program that includes both orientation phase and study focus. With the degree "Bachelor of Science [study focus*] plusMINT" you can apply for consecutive master's degree programs that correspond to your study focus.
