What are preliminary courses?

For some degree programs and subjects, we recommend attending preliminary courses. Pre-courses are aimed at first-year students who would like to refresh their knowledge of mathematics, chemistry* and/or Spanish. The preliminary courses start before the actual introduction dates.

What are preliminary courses?: Pre-course recommendations

Pre-course mathematics

The preliminary course in mathematics usually takes place over several weeks before the start of lectures in the winter semester and mainly repeats the topics of school mathematics that are most important for university. This course, recommended for all, refreshes your mathematics knowledge from school, prepares you for the mathematics entrance test, and in the process exposes possible gaps that are then filled in the advanced mathematics course.

For credit in the STEM companion program (4 SWS), a course credit must be earned in the form of written reflection assignments.

The course "Kompakt 1/2" is intended for plusMINT students. Click here for the specific dates and the necessary registration:

Preliminary course chemistry

The chemistry pre-course (exclusively for plusMINT students) can be attended alongside the mathematics pre-course from October and is an intensive course for important chemical basics. It consists of an online course with no fixed dates and exercises in the winter semester. It is particularly recommended for students interested in majoring in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, nanostructure science, physics and environmental engineering, as these majors include chemistry.

For credit in the MINT accompanying program (as 4 SWS), a course achievement in the form of successfully completed exercises must be provided.

Further information will follow in the introductory courses.
