Career prospects

The career prospects after studying landscape architecture and landscape planning are wide-ranging.

Graduates with a bachelor's and master's degree are currently in great demand on the job market. For example, you can work in a planning office, where the focus varies depending on the orientation and size of the office, such as designs for public and private open spaces, participation and communication concepts, plans and strategies for dealing with nature and landscape, or ecological reports, for example for protected areas or for interventions by infrastructure projects. However, in order to be admitted to the chamber after a few years of professional experience, one must have a master's degree. If you enjoy research during your studies, a master's degree enables you to work scientifically at universities and other research institutions, particularly in applied or basic research fields.

In addition, jobs in implementing companies in the gardening and landscaping sector, for example, are also possible. Another area with currently also very good prospects are authorities, municipalities or planning associations. Here, the thematic range extends from nature conservation authorities to other specialized authorities (for example, regional development, rural development/village renewal or water management) to cities and municipalities with their environmental, urban planning or green space offices. In addition, there are institutions that perform planning tasks for larger areas and, in doing so, prepare landscape plans/landscape framework plans or land use plans or spatial development plans, for example. Finally, there are many other opportunities, such as working in international organizations and consulting firms, in environmental education institutions/nature conservation centers, with environmental associations and foundations, in ministries responsible for nature conservation or related fields of activity, or in large-scale protected areas such as national parks, biosphere reserves and nature parks.
