In the bachelor's degree program in history (major), you will receive an overview of all epochs of European and non-European history. In the introductory modules you will deal with central topics and approaches to the history of antiquity, the Middle Ages and modern times. You will learn to distinguish, analyze and critically evaluate the most important source genres. In the in-depth modules, you will intensify the knowledge gained in the introductory modules on European and non-European topics. In doing so, you can deepen your personal interests by choosing from a diverse range of events.
Throughout the bachelor's program, you will also acquire a wide range of methodological skills that will qualify you for various professional fields, such as personnel management and adult education, journalism or museums, but you will also be prepared for working in an archive, a teaching institution or on archaeological sites. The six- to eight-semester bachelor's degree program in history in the city of Kassel, which is rich in museums, also offers you the opportunity for a particularly practice-oriented course of study.
The ability to work independently and on your own responsibility and the numerous other key competencies such as the ability to work in a team and action-oriented thinking, which you will acquire in the course of your studies and internship, will additionally qualify you for a successful career start. Above all, the opportunity to complete the internship provided for in the degree program at home or abroad will enable you to gain an insight into the national and international working world. In addition, you can study part of your degree abroad at the History Department's cooperating universities. Various scholarship formats such as ERASMUS offer financial support. You complete your bachelor's degree with a bachelor's thesis on a topic of your choice.
History as a minor always includes selected modules that are based on the Bachelor's program in the major. In the introductory modules you will deal with central topics and approaches to the history of antiquity, the Middle Ages and modern times. In doing so, you will be taught basic competencies and standards. In the advanced module "Europe and Non-Europe" you will deepen your knowledge of selected topics of this spatially defined history, which you will gain from an intensive examination of sources and research literature.
