Witzenhausen, known as the romantic cherry town in the Werra Valley, is located in a charming low mountain range landscape. Climatically protected by the foothills of the Kaufunger Forest and the High Meißner, the small town in northern Hesse is located in the center of Germany. The densely wooded surrounding countryside is characterized by small-scale agriculture. The town has been awarded the status of organic town and fair trade town.

Students on the Witzenhausen Campus

Including the districts, Witzenhausen has about 15,000 inhabitants. Currently, more than 1000 students study in Witzenhausen. The manageable size of the town with its surrounding stylish villages and the proximity to Kassel and Göttingen distinguish Witzenhausen as a place to study in a 'campus atmosphere'.

Characteristic of the place of study is a free and liberal study climate, which allows and promotes extensive student activities. International students are part of the image of the city and the university.

Room search and directions

Accommodation is available in a variety of forms as single rooms or in shared flats and is comparatively inexpensive.

The university city of Göttingen and the university and Documenta city of Kassel together offer a respectable cultural program. Students receive a semester ticket for the North Hessian public transport system with their student ID and can move around the Kassel/Göttingen area at no additional cost. In addition, there is a culture ticket for free use of several cultural institutions.
