History and the Public Sphere (Master)

The MA program in History and the Public Sphere is divided into two areas of study:

On the one hand, the research-oriented subject/thematic module area A deals with essential dimensions of society/culture and corresponding levels of access to history from antiquity to immediate contemporary history. Here you will acquire in-depth knowledge of the influence of ideas, ideologies and social processes, of the role of individual and structural factors in history, and of the significance of space and time for historical processes.

On the other hand, the methodological-practical module area B imparts profession-qualifying competencies of written and oral presentation and communication of historical knowledge in various media contexts and genres. For this purpose, existing cooperations with archives, museums and institutions in the city of Kassel and the region are used and further cooperations are specifically expanded. These qualification goals are supported firstly by the compulsory internship, which offers you a special insight into practice and which can be completed, for example, at one of the cooperating institutions, secondly by the possibility of completing a semester abroad, which is anchored in the study plan, as well as by the acquisition of key competencies.
