In a globally oriented working world, it is becoming increasingly important to have a confident command of the English language. In the Bachelor's program "English and American Studies / Anglistik und Amerikanistik", however, the focus is not only on the confident use of the language, but also on the examination of the culture, literature and history of Great Britain and/or America.
The study of English/American Studies encompasses country and cultural studies as well as linguistics and literary studies. Equally important is language practice, so courses are usually taught in English, which requires very good language skills. A semester abroad in an English-speaking country is obligatory. In addition, the program is combined with a minor subject.
Students who enjoy speaking English and are also interested in other cultures have the best prerequisites for the program. Communication skills and a disciplined will to learn are also required. Without a language certificate - for example, the certificate of an internationally recognized language examination - admission to the program is not possible. Language certificates are also required for the minor subjects French or Spanish.
