"Pupils experiment" at the university
After the cancellation of the competition in 2020, a purely virtual competition in 2021 and a face-to-face competition without the public in 2022, the fourth Hessian state competition "Schüler experimentieren" will again take place at the Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Kassel, with 45 young researchers in 25 teams on March 24 and 25, 2023.
"It's great that this year the public will again have the opportunity to view the participants' work, which is good for everyone involved," comments Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Bangert from the Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science at the University of Kassel, pleased with this year's Hessian state competition "Schüler experimentieren".The state competition director, Eva Kretzer, added: "This will certainly encourage other children to take part next year, or at least to get to grips with STEM issues, in order to gain easier access to mathematics, computer science, the natural sciences or technology.
The Hessian state competition "Schüler experimentieren", which is generously supported by the sponsoring organization cdw Stiftung gGmbH and the sponsoring company Hübner GmbH & Co. KG, is the "little sister" of the "Jugend forscht" competition. Interested children from the fourth grade up to the age of 14 were invited to submit their ideas and projects from one of the seven themmenareas of the world of work, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathmatics/computer science, physics and technology. The 25 invited teams, consisting of a total of 45 young researchers, will present their research projects at the University of Kassel on March 24 and 25, 2023, at thelocation Wilhelmshöher Allee, also to find out who gets to take home which of the prestigious prizes and to see what the other researchers have found out. And, above all, to find out how they did it.
Highly exciting topics are included again this year. The work presented, for example, deals with questions such as "Are cats left- or right-pawlers?" or "Do birds have favorite colors?" Another group, on the other hand, searchte the use of paper to build the house of the future or the magic of a thermos flask. Two groups arefar away from new ideas for "autonomous driving" and for a "car-free city".In addition, there are several projects that aim to replace dangerous products of civilization with biological or ecological products and make scientifically based proposals for this purpose .
The submitted written works as well as the presentations of the participantstakehmer/innen are evaluated by the jurors of the respective specialist discipline. The honorary jury members are proven experts in their disciplinities and come from the fields of school, industry and science.
The awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. The event will be moderated by Dr. Sascha Ott.
The public is invited to form their own impression of the submitted work and to discuss it with the youngwissenschaftler/innen on March 25, 2023 from 12:30 to 14:30. Participation in the award ceremony is also possible, subject to space availability.
Location: Department of Electrical Engineering/Computer Science, Wilhelmshöher Allee 71, Kassel.
