Three new project seminars I Go:Green

In summer semester 2025, three interdisciplinary project seminars will be offered at the Green Office in cooperation with the Department of Architecture, Urban and Landscape Planning and the University of Art and Design. Attendance of the project seminars can be recognized for Bachelor's and Master's degree courses as well as in the area of key competencies, in consultation with the respective examination offices.
Project seminar I Go Green: Material exchange@KhK 2.0
In winter semester 2024/25, the Material Exchange project was launched at the University of Art and Design and established contact with the "Reststück" material exchange, which was created at the Department of Architecture, Urban and Landscape Planning, and subsequently developed its own concept for the University of Art and Design. The result was the "reversible loop": the materials are to be stored in self-made modules in the listed cupboards located in the corridors of the KHK. The aim is to enable the exchange of materials during the work phases of the semester with the lowest possible threshold, without having to take into account the opening hours of rooms. The variety of materials used at the Kunsthochschule is currently still a major challenge for the quality assurance and organization of the "turning loop".
The Materialbörse@KhK seminar is now to be deepened and tested in practice in a further semester in summer semester 2025. The systemic prototype from last semester will be tested and adapted. In addition, awareness-raising measures for the circulation of material at the University of Art and Design will be offered. The aim of the seminar is to reduce the amount of waste at the art academy and to make further use of the existing materials in cellars, workrooms and studios. At the same time, it should provide students with a cost-neutral way to realize their projects. In addition, the seminar aims to achieve increased networking between the degree courses at the art academy.
The seminar is offered by Prof. Dr. Susanne Ritzmann, Professor of Sustainable Product Design and Development at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. It is open to students of the Kunsthochschule, especially students in the lower semesters & interested students from other university locations.
Project seminar I Go Green: flowerpower & happybee
In cooperation, teachers from the study workshops will offer an interdisciplinary, participatory project seminar at the Kunsthochschule campus in summer semester 2025, which begins with the observation of natural cycles and uses them to create a wide variety of ideas and products to improve the interaction between people, nature and each other at the university. The project seminar consists of an input, experimentation, idea evaluation and documentation phase.
Dye plants are to be grown on the open spaces of the art college campus and a honey bee hive is to be set up. By observing and experiencing nature and learning textile finishing techniques using natural materials (dyeing with plants, wax batik, natural hydrophobization ("impregnation") of textile surfaces), students can embark on a self-motivated experimentation phase. Throughout the course, students will be accompanied by teachers and external instructors, e.g. in workshops on "Creativity Techniques & Methods" and "Making Color from Eggs and Honey".
The seminar is offered by Markus Etienne (Photography Study Workshop) and Nadja Porsch (Textile Study Workshop) at the Kunsthochschule Kassel. The project seminar is intended to open up the possibility for students to work in different disciplines, e.g. product design, visual communication, sustainable design: Product Design, Visual Communication, Sustainable Management, Landscape Planning, Foodlab, Student Services, Teaching, Ecological Agricultural Sciences to come together.
Project seminar I Go Green: Holzbau4Experts
The seminar is the follow-up project to the "Strohbau4Experts" seminar. In the same form, it will be a real laboratory for the development of 1:1 models made from renewable raw materials. This time the focus will be on traditional timber construction using modern techniques in self-construction by students. The components in real size will become part of the materials library at the FG ENB and will serve as long-term visualization and study objects for future students. The seminar is the second part of a series of seminars organized by the Design and Sustainable Building group at FB06.
The project is of interest to all students who want to understand the nature of sustainable constructions and experience the processes and creation of these themselves. No previous knowledge of craftsmanship is required, as experts will guide the assembly. A permanent exhibition will be created for all interested parties in the materials library of the Faculty of Design and Sustainable Building (FB 06). In addition, the practical implementation leads to more intensive learning. The result will be a real building component that will also serve as a demonstration object for future students. The experimental planning and construction of a floor-to-ceiling building corner with floor, walls and roof will be created on a 1:1 scale. For this purpose, primarily renewable materials and wood are used in traditional joining techniques. The exclusive use of these raw materials demonstrates the possibilities of consistently sustainable construction. This leads to the acquisition of knowledge about sustainable and circular construction methods.
The seminar is offered by Frederik Ehling at the Department of Design and Sustainable Building at the Institute of Architecture. It is open to all students. No previous knowledge of craftsmanship is required, as experts will guide the assembly.
The project seminars will soon be available in the course catalog .
