New at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences: Prof. Dr. Sebastian Mentemeier

Sebastian Mentemeier studied mathematics at the University of Münster and received his doctorate there. During his doctorate, he established contacts with the University of Wroclaw, which led to a one-year post-doctoral research stay. He then moved to TU Dortmund University as a temporary academic advisor. Since March 2018, he has been Professor of Stochastics at the University of Kassel. In his research, Sebastian Mentemeier deals with phenomena in statistical mechanics, among others, in which the classical central limit theorem does not apply and the role of the normal distribution is taken over by new, previously unknown probability distributions. He is also interested in questions of extreme value theory, which is important for insurance companies and their preparations for major claims, for example.
