Prof. Dr. Jost Adam

Prof. Dr. Jost Adam has headed the Computational Materials and Photonics (CMP) department since September 1, 2023. After studying mathematics, he received his doctorate in computational electromagnetics at Kiel University (CAU). This was followed by post-doctoral phases in Kiel and at the Photonics Laboratory of the University of California (UCLA), Los Angeles, USA. After temporarily heading the Chair of Integrated Systems and Photonics at Kiel University, he has been head of the Computational Materials working group at the Mads Clausen Institute at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) since 2014.

The research focus of the Computational Materials and Photonics department is the theory and computer-aided, multiscale and multiphysical investigation of new materials and nanostructures with applications in photonics, sensor technology and renewable energies. Molecular, quantum mechanical considerations as well as calculations based on classical theories and machine learning methods are used.
