Prof. Dr. Stefan Lechtenböhmer
Dr. Stefan Lechtenböhmer has been working on the energy transition for more than 30 years and is a leading expert on the sustainable transformation of the industrial system. On September 1, he took over as head of the Sustainable Technology Design department, filling one of the four core professorships at the Kassel Institute for Sustainability. After studying geography, economics and political science at the University of Münster, Stefan Lechtenböhmer received his doctorate in economics from the University of Flensburg in 2008. From 2010 to 2023 he was Department Head at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy, and since 2015 he has been an honorary professor at Lund University (Sweden). Until his move to Kassel, he also headed the scientific part of the IN4climate.NRW initiative. Lechtenböhmer wants to help shape application and, above all, solution-oriented sustainability research at the Kassel Institute for Sustainability and thus further strengthen and expand the transformation to sustainability as a cross-cutting topic at the University of Kassel.
