The thesis was first reviewed by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Clemens Hoffmann at the Department of Integrated Energy Systems and supervised by M. Sc. Maximilian Pfennig at Fraunhofer IEE. Second reviewer was Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kurt Rohrig. The award ceremony took place on October 28, 2021 during the FfE Energy Days at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. Beforehand, six finalists presented their work to an expert audience and then answered questions from the audience. Christoppf Zink finally prevailed in the "External Work" category.

Since 2019, the Helmut Schaefer Prize has been awarded annually for outstanding master's theses in the field of energy economics and technology. This is also to honor the lifetime achievement of the long-time Scientific Director of the Forschungsstelle für Energiewirtschaft e. V., Prof. Dr.-Ing. Helmut Schaefer as a prominent advocate for more energy efficiency in all areas.
